About Me
Bianca Begovich
Author Bianca Begovich's two greatest passions are children and the environment. After studying science at university, she worked as an environmental educator for 15 years. She has three children, who all knew whether rubbish goes in the compost, recycling or waste bin by the time they were four years old. Her books are inspired by a desire to have children (and adults) feel they are a part of the natural world, to have a sense of awe about how nature works sustainably and to understand that even the smallest of our actions can have far-reaching effects on the planet where we live.
Big Concepts for Little Minds
Bianca's books are different from other conservation-themed stories in that the focus is on encouraging an understanding of our relationship within the natural world, rather than explaining the environment as something separate from us. Her stories puts people in the middle of the story, explaining that we are a part of the natural processes which make the planet work sustainably. The simple rhyme makes big concepts such as sustainability, interdependence and climate change accessible to younger children, so that from an early age, they have an understanding that their actions make a difference to the health and future of the planet they live on.
"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What
you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
- Jane Goodall
